UNICEF is deeply concerned about the recent spate of attacks on schools in north-eastern Nigeria and condemns the brutal assault that took place last Friday at Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Kebbi. We demand urgent action to protect students and prevent further incidents.

These attacks, which occurred between February 17th and March 21st, have disrupted education for thousands of children across four states in Nigeria's north-east. They underscore the need for immediate steps to be taken to safeguard schools, students, and educators.

UNICEF calls on all stakeholders - including government officials, community leaders, and security forces - to take concerted action to end these senseless attacks and ensure that children can continue their education without fear of violence.

We also urge the Nigerian government to fulfill its obligations under international law by providing safe schools. This includes implementing measures like improved security at school premises, regular monitoring of suspicious activities around schools, and strengthening coordination among relevant authorities and stakeholders in preventing such incidents from occurring again.

As a child-centered organization committed to protecting the rights of every child, UNICEF stands ready to support the Nigerian government in its efforts to ensure that all children can access quality education without fear or harm.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
