Unlocking Innovation MakerSpace Benilde Unveils a Hub for Next-Gen Design Innovators

Benilde, a renowned institution of higher learning, has taken a significant step forward in empowering the next generation of design innovators. The ceremonial blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest workshop and advanced laboratory, MakerSpace Benilde, marked an exciting milestone in the pursuit of creative excellence.

A Hub for Hands-On Learning and Design Thinking

Located on Camachile Street in Malate, just a stone's throw away from the Design + Arts Campus (DAC), MakerSpace Benilde is a 1,476-square-meter venue designed to foster hands-on learning and design thinking among students. The revamped space formerly occupied by an ancestral house has been transformed into a state-of-the-art workshop, featuring workspaces, lecture halls, creative zones, and open areas that encourage collaboration and innovation.

Touring the Facilities

Dean Ar. Harvey Vasquez led a tour of the facilities, showcasing ongoing developments such as sample finish product sites, common lounge areas for both collaboration and leisure, and designated spaces for laser cutters, 3D printers, pottery, kilns, jewelry-making, textiles, and tool storage.

Embracing Creative Freedom

Vasquez explained that MakerSpace Benilde's expansive layout is designed to deviate from the traditional classroom setup, allowing students to explore their creative potential with greater freedom. The airy workspaces and open gardens provide ample opportunities for hands-on experimentation, such as mixing paints, dyeing fabrics, or hanging textiles to dry under the sunlight.

This is the core essence of MakerSpace Benilde, Vasquez emphasized. Our students will be able to experience how to build first-hand, exploring working more with their hands.

Empowering Future Design Innovators

With MakerSpace Benilde now open for business, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) is poised to empower the next generation of design innovators. By providing a platform for hands-on learning and creative freedom, students will be equipped to tackle complex problems and develop innovative solutions that shape the world around us.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
