Empowering Youth ATI-RTC2's Youth Internship Program Welcomes New Generation of Coconut Farmers in Region 2

The Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center Region 2 (ATI-RTC2) office in Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela, has taken a bold step towards empowering the next generation of coconut farmers by launching the Youth Internship Program for Children of Coconut Farmers (YIPCCF). This innovative initiative aims to equip young minds with knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies, setting them on a path towards a successful career in coconut farming.

Program Launch

On December 2, 2025, ATI-RTC2 formalized its partnership with two partner learning sites for agriculture (LSAs) through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). This milestone marked the beginning of the program's implementation and the engagement of young interns. The YIPCCF is designed to engage the next generation in coconut farming, enhance technical skills in production, develop leadership qualities, foster values, and deepen appreciation of the economic opportunities in the coconut sector.

Objectives

Center Director Claris Alaska emphasized that this internship is not a challenge but an opportunity for the interns to learn from experienced farm partners. She encouraged them to learn from the experiences of our farm partners who have grown into successful learning sites. Soon, you too will help promote and advocate modern technologies in farming.

Program Overview

Agriculturist Engineer Fhrea Domingo provided an overview of the program, outlining the roles of interns, host farms, local government units (LGUs), and ATI-RTC2. The program involves a nine-month hands-on field training at assigned host farms, followed by a 12-month implementation phase for their respective business enterprise plans or BEPs.

Starter Kit

To prepare participants for field deployment, the Department of Agriculture (DA) provided each intern with a starter kit containing essential items such as paddy boots, long-sleeved workwear, a bush hat, a backpack, a record book, and basic farm tools. This thoughtful gesture is expected to enhance their experience and increase their confidence in their newfound skills.

Ambassadors of Modern Coconut Farming

As the interns embark on this journey, they are expected to become ambassadors of modern coconut farming practices, promoting innovation and progress in the industry. The launch of the YIPCCF program marks a significant step towards strengthening youth engagement in the coconut industry, ensuring a new generation of skilled, motivated, and entrepreneurship-ready coconut farmers in Cagayan Valley.

Conclusion

The Youth Internship Program for Children of Coconut Farmers is an innovative initiative that offers young people a unique opportunity to learn from experienced farm partners and develop skills in modern agricultural technologies. As they take on this challenge, they are expected to become the next generation of skilled and motivated coconut farmers, driving progress and innovation in the industry. The program's success will not only benefit the interns but also contribute to the growth and development of the coconut sector as a whole.
