US slams Iran strikes on Azerbaijan as 'needless escalation'
The United States has condemned Iran's strikes on Azerbaijan, saying they undermine regional stability. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington was prepared to impose sanctions on those involved in the attacks. On Thursday, Iran fired missiles at Azerbaijan's Ganja city. Azerbaijan said the strikes targeted military positions and that there were no civilian casualties. Iran said it had carried out the missile strikes after Azerbaijan failed to meet its demands. Mr Pompeo said the US would take action against anyone involved in the attacks.
