UK government to release files on 'rude' ex-prince Andrew

- The UK government has committed to releasing documents on former Prince Andrew’s past role as a trade envoy in light of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
2. The release is being prompted by pressure from Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labour government, as well as the Liberal Democrats’ use of a parliamentary mechanism.
3. Documents related to Andrew and former minister Peter Mandelson will be released due to their association with Epstein, who was recently arrested for sex offenses.
4. Mountbatten-Windsor has been probed by police over allegations that he shared sensitive documents with Epstein during his time as envoy. His elder brother King Charles III has said the “law must take its course.”
5. Lib Dem leader Ed Davey says Andrew’s association with Epstein is a “stain on our country” and that transparency is needed to begin to clean away that stain.
6. Bryant wants to “manage people’s expectations” about how quickly the papers can be released, due to the age and quantity of the material as well as the police probe.
7. Mandelson faces a separate misconduct-in-public-office probe related to his links to Epstein.
8. Two of Starmer’s top aides have resigned over Mandelson’s appointment as UK ambassador in Washington, triggering a political storm.
