The Challenges of UAP Qatar Evolving Practices in a Sustainable World

As we enter 2025, the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Qatar Chapter is poised to tackle the challenges of the modern architectural landscape. Our recent 2nd General Membership Meeting (GMM) brought together architects, industry leaders, and distinguished guests to celebrate professional growth and unity.

Architects at the Crossroads Evolving Practice in a Smart and Sustainable World

The two-part event highlighted the vital role of architects in shaping a more sustainable and resilient future. The first part featured a thought-provoking seminar in partnership with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Middle East, where three esteemed architects shared valuable insights on sustainability and climate-responsive design.

Sustainability Literacy The Essentials for Transformative Design

Ms. Ganesan Priya's presentation, Integrated by Design Sustainability as a Core Architectural Principle, emphasized the importance of embedding sustainable practices at the heart of every design. Ms. Bysshe Wallace shared her expertise on Sustainability Literacy—the Essentials for Transformative Design, highlighting the need for architects to adapt literacy and awareness in driving true change.

Integrating Climate Resilience into Architectural Practice

Ms. Lakshimi Suryan discussed Integrating Climate Resilience into Architectural Practice, underscoring the urgency of designing for resilience in the face of global climate challenges. The seminar sparked meaningful dialogue on topics such as zero-carbon design, greenwashing versus green marketing, life-cycle thinking, and climate-resilient solutions.

The Second Part Induction and Oath-taking Ceremony

The second part of the event was marked by the Induction and Oath-taking Ceremony for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, a significant milestone for the chapter. As the re-elected chapter president, I led the new Board of Directors, while newly registered members and architects from SPLE Qatar Batch Arkan proudly took their oaths.

A Testament to Unity and Progress

The occasion was graced by esteemed guests, including Ambassador Mardomel Celo D. Melicor of the Philippine Embassy in Doha, PPO-Q Chairman Mr. Alvin R. Pulido, and First Secretary Mr. Christian Dave Barrameda. UAP national leaders also lent their presence, with District Director for Area 6 Ar./EnP. Eldrid B. Refil, Vice President for Area A Ar. Albert Dumlao, and UAP National President Ar. Jonathan V. Manalad, FUAP, administering the oath-taking rites.

A Celebration of Professional Excellence

The event was hosted with flair by Ar. Wilcelyn C. Juan and Mr. Karle Haven P. Reyes as masters of ceremony. The gathering was more than just an organizational event—it was a testament to unity, collaboration, and progress, embodying UAP Qatar's commitment to empowering Filipino architects and strengthening the profession within the global landscape.

Conclusion

As we look to 2025 and beyond, the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Qatar Chapter is poised to tackle the challenges of the modern architectural landscape. With our focus on sustainability, climate resilience, and professional excellence, we are confident that our chapter will continue to thrive and make a meaningful impact in the industry.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
