Gilas Pilipinas Aims for Gold in SEA Games 3x3 Basketball Tough Competition Ahead

The Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) have long been a premier platform for countries in the region to showcase their skills and compete against one another. This year's games promise to be even more intense, with Gilas Pilipinas men's and women's basketball teams gearing up to make a statement.

A new addition to the SEA Games basketball competitions is the 3x3 event, which has drawn both men's and women's squads into rigorous preparation mode. The men's team, comprising Ange Kouame, Janrey Pasaol, Joseph Eriobu, and Joseph Sedurifa, faces a stern test in their group stage matches against Vietnam and Malaysia.

For the women's team, Mikka Cacho, Kaye Pingol, Reynalyn Ferrer, and Jhaz Joson will look to make a strong start in their opening match against Indonesia. Both teams are eyeing gold this year, after settling for silver medals two years ago at the SEA Games in Cambodia.

In an interview, Eriobu emphasized his team's goal of winning the top prize, saying, Ang goal talaga namin is gold. He also cautioned that Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia should not be underestimated, as they pose a significant threat to their title aspirations. The men's team will need to navigate Group B, which includes Laos in addition to the aforementioned opponents, while the women's team will compete in Group A against Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Myanmar.

Gilas Women 3x3 coach Anton Altamirano noted that any team can win on a given day, citing the intense competitiveness of this year's tournament. We're going to take it one game at a time because all teams are competitive, unlike before, he said. It's probably one of the most competitive SEA Games tournaments.

The remainder of group play, including the semifinals and finals for both divisions, will take place on Thursday. With the stakes high and the competition fierce, Gilas Pilipinas will need to dig deep to achieve their goals.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
