Pope to Eq. Guinea Work for justice, close income gap

Pope Francis has urged leaders of Equatorial Guinea to work towards greate[6D[K
greater justice in society and reduce the income gap between rich and poor.[5D[K

The pontiff told a group of government officials from the west African nati[4D[K
nation that wealth should not just be enjoyed by a select few.
The Vatican said he also spoke out against corruption during his visit to t[1D[K
the country last week.
Critics say President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo's government is corrupt[7D[K
corrupt and repressive.
Mr Obiang has been in power since 1979, making him one of Africa's longest [K
serving leaders. The pope met him on Friday.
The Vatican said Pope Francis had not commented publicly on human rights ab[2D[K
abuses and corruption allegations during his visit as these were issues for[3D[K
for the local church to deal with.
But it added that behind closed doors he had spoken out against such ills i[1D[K
in Equatorial Guinea, Africa's third largest oil producer.
The pope is known to be particularly concerned about economic inequality.
