Title Supporting Unserved PUJ Drivers Pasig City's Cash Assistance Initiative

As we enter a new year, it is essential that we prioritize supporting individuals who have been disproportionately affected by crisis. In this spirit, the Pasig City government has made a significant effort to process over 1,000 traditional and modern public utility jeepney drivers who were initially overlooked for cash relief assistance.

The Crucial Role of Cash Assistance

For many PUJ drivers, the pandemic has dealt a devastating blow to their livelihoods. While some drivers received initial cash relief assistance, others were left behind. Pasig City's initiative provides much-needed financial support to these unserved drivers.

A Collaborative Effort Towards Support

The process involved local registration and data validation, conducted in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The activity took place at Maybunga Rainforest Park on March 30 and 31, where 853 PUJ drivers underwent profiling. Additionally, 171 members of transport cooperatives under the Pasig City Cooperative Development Office were included without requiring additional profiling.

Efficient Data Management

The collaboration between the CTDMO (City Transportation Development and Management Office), City Social Welfare and Development Office, and Cooperative Development Office ensured that data was accurately cleaned and deduplicated. This meticulous process allowed for the removal of duplicate entries from both the Pasig masterlist and the national list.

A Brighter Future Ahead

The initial list has been submitted to the national government for finalization, paving the way for a special payout for PUJ and MPUJ drivers in Pasig City. As we await the schedule for this payout, it is clear that Pasig City is taking proactive steps to support its unserved drivers.

Conclusion

As we move forward into 2026, let us remember the importance of supporting those who have been left behind. Pasig City's initiative serves as a shining example of how local governments can make a tangible difference in the lives of their citizens. By providing cash assistance to unserved PUJ drivers, Pasig City is not only addressing a pressing need but also demonstrating its commitment to building a more equitable and just society.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
