North Korea's Rising Star Kim Yo Jong Stepping into the Spotlight
Kim Jong Un is not the only influential family member ruling North Korea these days. His sister, Kim Yo Jong, has been making waves in world news recently, stepping into the spotlight and raising eyebrows along the way.
Yo Jong is just one of many women leaders across Asia who are steadily climbing the ranks to take more prominent roles within their countries' governments and international affairs. She currently serves as a Vice Premier of North Korea's cabinet and head of its influential ruling party, the Workers Party of Korea.
Many speculate that Yo Jong will be next in line for leadership once her brother is no longer eligible for succession. Her position in power allows for many opportunities to display her influence outside of the country's border. For example, she attended a ceremony for South Korean President Moon Jae-in and played an integral part in organizing the 2018 inter-Korean summit.
Yo Jong has been described as sharp-tongued, confident, and even ruthless when it comes to getting what she wants within North Korea's government structure. She has used her position as a key advisor to manipulate others around her brother Kim Jong Un, which makes many question whether or not she should be seen as a rising star or someone who is dangerous.
It will be interesting indeed to watch how Yo Jong continues to use her influence inside and outside of North Korea in the years ahead. She certainly seems determined enough to keep making her mark on global news headlines!
