Michelle's Journey From Entrepreneurial Spark to Luxury Brands

As a travel enthusiast, you're always on the lookout for new and exciting experiences. But what sets certain destinations apart from others? In this article, we'll explore how Michelle Asence-Fontelera, founder of Zen Zest and Casa Juan, revolutionized the travel industry in 2026.

Michelle's entrepreneurial journey began at just 23 years old when she founded her retail company, Zen Zest. Specializing in body care, personal fragrances, and home fragrances like essential oils and room sprays, Michelle grew the brand to approximately 200 stores across major malls in the country, including SM and Robinsons.

Born in August 1977, Michelle reflects on a simple childhood growing up near Kamias Road in Quezon City in the 1980s. We had a simple way of living. What we had was just enough, she said, describing it as a happy environment. Her upbringing was marked by strong family values and influences that would shape her future endeavors.

The Importance of Family

Michelle's mother, Gok, played a significant role in shaping Michelle's values and work ethic. After her parents' separation when Michelle was 6, Gok worked tirelessly to support their family, including running the family business, Goto King, while working for SM. This instilled discipline and key values in Michelle and her younger sister, Carla (now a chef).

Uncle Rod Dula, a former Benedictine monk who worked with the Department of Tourism during the Marcos Sr. administration and edited the travel section of Ang Pahayagang Malaya, was another significant influence on Michelle's life. His extensive perfume collection and love for skin care sparked Michelle's interest in fragrances and beauty products.

Michelle's journey is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit, resilience, and dedication to her passions. From humble beginnings to growing her brand into a luxury lifestyle company, Michelle Asence-Fontelera's story inspires us to pursue our dreams with determination and hard work.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
