He's also served as chief of the astronaut office, ensuring that safety protocols are up-to-date and everyone is prepared for what lies ahead. After losing his wife to cancer in 2020, Wiseman now raises two teenagers alone while juggling his own busy work schedule. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to transparency with his children about the risks they will face on this historic journey.

The co-captain of the mission is Victor Glover, a fellow former Navy officer and father of four girls. He was working as a legislative advisor in the US Senate when NASA selected him in 2013, and he has already made history by becoming the first Black man to take part in a long-duration mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2020. Now, he will make history again by being the first person of color to travel to the moon. Glover brings with him not only his piloting skills but also a passion for space exploration that began when he was young and saw a televised Space Shuttle launch.

The third member of the crew is Christina Koch, an engineer who holds the record for the longest spaceflight by a woman. She joined NASA in 2013 and has already participated in the first-ever all-female spacewalk, showing just how capable she is at navigating the unknown. Like Glover, her passion for exploration began early in life when she saw a picture of Neil Armstrong on the moon. Despite facing adversity as one of only two female astronauts currently working with NASA, Koch remains focused and determined to make history as the first woman to fly around the moon.

The fourth member of the crew is Jeremy Hansen, Canada's first astronaut to travel beyond Earth's orbit. After serving as a fighter pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Hansen joined the ranks of the Canadian Space Agency in 2009. He has served as both a liaison between Earth and the ISS and a trainer for new astronauts. He too can trace his passion for space back to childhood when he saw Armstrong on the moon.
