Title Makati City Boosts Senior Benefits Enhancing Welfare and Participation

As part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring the lasting welfare and participation of senior citizens, Makati City has instituted a comprehensive assistance program through City Ordinance 2025-A-023. This ordinance aims to enhance existing benefits and introduce structured provisions on financial support, food security, employment, and tax incentives for companies hiring seniors.

A New Era of Support

The Makati Senior Citizens Assistance and Inclusion Program replaces the previous tiered benefits system with a single annual cash incentive of P12,000, distributed in two equal tranches per year. This significant upgrade provides a more consistent and substantial support to senior citizens.

To further address the basic needs of seniors, each qualified individual will receive 10 kilos of rice annually, helping to alleviate food costs and contribute to their overall well-being and independence.

Empowering Seniors Through Employment

The ordinance also directs the Public Employment Service Office (PESO)-Makati to establish a Senior Citizens Employment Desk. This registry connects employable seniors with suitable opportunities in both public and private institutions, empowering them to continue contributing to society and remain engaged and active.

Encouraging Private Sector Inclusivity

To encourage companies to hire senior citizens, businesses that do so may claim a 15 percent tax deduction on total salaries and wages paid to them when computing their business tax. This conciliatory measure aims to promote inclusivity and diversity in the workforce, ensuring that seniors are valued and integrated members of society.

A Commitment to Senior Welfare

In conclusion, Makati City's new ordinance is a significant step forward in supporting the welfare of its senior citizens. By providing financial assistance, promoting food security, empowering employment, and encouraging private sector participation, this initiative demonstrates the city's commitment to ensuring the well-being and continued participation of seniors in society.

Enjoy the little things in life. For one day, you may look back and realize they were the big things. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
