Korean Charge Dominates PH Ladies Masters Opener Yunseo Lee Shines in Windy Conditions
The opening round of the ICTSI Philippine Ladies Masters 2026 at Summit Point Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas was marked by a dominant display from Korean golfers, with Yunseo Lee and Jisun Kang leading the charge. The pair carded impressive rounds to take the top spots on the leaderboard, as the event got off to a thrilling start.
Lee's six-under-par 66 was the standout performance of the day, despite the stiff winds that picked up in the afternoon. She started strongly, notching five birdies on the front nine before finishing with a flourish, including a birdie at the par-5 ninth.
I feel very good playing here, Lee said. Summit Point is an excellent course. The conditions were perfect today, despite the wind picking up later in the round.
Lee's compatriot Kim Kayoung won the title at The Country Club last year, and Lee is looking to keep the trophy in Korean hands.
Kang also put in a solid performance, carding a five-under-par 67. She started strong, turning in three-under with birdies at holes 3, 6, and 9. She then showed her mettle as the wind picked up, adding birdies at holes 11 and 14 to finish strongly.
The other Korean, Jeonghyeon Kang, and Thai golfer Navaporn Soontreeyapas also impressed, carding identical five-under-par rounds to tie for second place.
The opening day's action saw the top players shrugging off the challenging conditions and slick putting surfaces to post impressive scores. Park and Lee from Korea, and Taiwan's Min Lee, all battled through tough conditions in the final group, finishing with 68s and 69s respectively to move into early contention.
Superal, playing alongside them, had a more difficult round, holing out with consecutive bogeys towards the end of her round to finish with a 74. Other players, including Bisera, Singson, and Uy from the Philippines, struggled to match the Koreans' and Thais' scoring pace, finishing in the mid-70s.
However, some Filipino golfers did manage to impress, with Bisera and Singson both posting 71s to join the top 14 players on the leaderboard. Bisera salvaged her round with a strong finish, while Singson bounced back from a front-nine bogey with two birdies on the back nine.
It was a bit tough because of the strong winds and the fatigue from traveling from Indonesia, Bisera said. But I managed to recover on the back nine.
The tournament is co-organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments and the TLPGA, and features some of the world's top female golfers competing for a $200,000 prize purse.
