Indonesia Honors Fallen Peacekeepers in Lebanon A Call for Action on Pro[3D[K
Protection and Security
As I reflect on the recent loss of three Indonesian peacekeepers in souther[7D[K
southern Lebanon, I am reminded of the importance of coming together to dem[3D[K
demand action on protection and security for our brave men and women servin[6D[K
serving in UN missions.
The Tragic Losses
On March 29, a projectile exploded in southern Lebanon, claiming the life o[1D[K
of Peacekeeper Farizal Rhomadhon, 28. Just a day later, two more blue helme[5D[K
helmets, Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, 33, and Muhammad Nur Ichwan, 26, lost their[5D[K
their lives in an explosion that struck a logistics convoy of the UN Interi[6D[K
Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil). The devastating incidents have sparked c[1D[K
calls from Indonesian authorities for an investigation and security guarant[7D[K
guarantees for peacekeeping forces.
Military Funerals
The fallen soldiers were laid to rest on Sunday in coffins draped in the In[2D[K
Indonesian flag, accompanied by military honors and gun salutes. Zulmi was [K
buried in a military cemetery in his hometown in Bandung, West Java, while [K
Ichwan and Farizal were laid to rest in their respective hometowns in Centr[5D[K
Central Java and Yogyakarta. Family members wept as they scattered flower p[1D[K
petals on the graves, their tears a poignant reminder of the human cost of [K
conflict.
Calls for Action
Indonesian authorities have demanded that the UN Security Council convene a[1D[K
an emergency meeting to review the situation and take measures to enhance t[1D[K
the protection of personnel serving with Unifil. Foreign Minister Sugiono h[1D[K
has called for a thorough investigation into the incidents, emphasizing the[3D[K
the need for better security guarantees for peacekeeping soldiers.
Compensation and Support
Agus Subiyanto, commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, has assu[4D[K
assured that every fallen soldier will receive compensation in recognition [K
of their service. We have prepared all the rights and entitlements that mu[2D[K
must be given to the fallen soldiers, he said. Among these is compensation[12D[K
compensation from the United Nations.
A Call to Action
As we mourn the loss of our brave peacekeepers, we are reminded that their [K
sacrifice will not be in vain. It is our duty to ensure that their families[8D[K
families receive the support they need, and that their memory inspires us t[1D[K
to continue working towards a more peaceful world. We must demand action on[2D[K
on protection and security for our troops, and work together to prevent suc[3D[K
such tragedies from occurring again.
Conclusion
The verdant landscape may seem far removed from the desolate battlefields o[1D[K
of Lebanon, but it is precisely in these moments of darkness that we must d[1D[K
draw strength from the natural world around us. As we lay our fallen peacek[6D[K
peacekeepers to rest, let us also commit ourselves to creating a brighter f[1D[K
future for all, where conflict and violence are a thing of the past.
