House Bill Aims to Provide Relief to Informal Settlers Rent Subsidy Program Proposed

As photographers, we know that capturing the struggles of those living in poverty can be a powerful tool for change. That's why we're excited to share with you House Bill 7230, which proposes a monthly rent subsidy program for informal settler families (ISFs) living in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Establishing a Safety Net for Low-Income Families

The bill, filed by Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez and Tingog Representatives Yedda Marie Romualdez, Andrew Julian Romualdez, and Jude Acidre, aims to establish a Rental Housing Subsidy Program that provides financial aid to low-income families or displaced individuals. This safety net helps them afford decent housing in the rental market, acting as a bridge until permanent solutions are available.

The Daily Struggle for Affordable Housing

For many ISFs, finding affordable housing is a daily struggle. The reality is that these families must spend hours scouring the city for a place to call home, only to find that it's out of their budget. This bill recognizes that financial aid can be a vital lifeline for those in need.

How the Rent Subsidy Program Works

Here are the key points

Eligibility ISFs living in NCR are eligible for the subsidy.
Subsidy amount P3,500 per month for ISFs in NCR; amounts may vary outside of Metro Manila based on prevailing minimum wage and rental rates.
Duration The subsidy will be granted until the date of completion of the permanent housing project intended for ISFs or until they transfer to a new home. It can be extended if the completion of the permanent housing project is delayed.

Prioritizing Good Payment Standings

The bill also prioritizes beneficiaries who maintain good payment standings, giving them preferential treatment in government housing programs. This ensures that those who are most responsible with their finances receive support when they need it most.

A Step Forward for Affordable Housing

House Bill 7230 is a step forward in addressing the affordable housing crisis faced by informal settlers. By providing financial aid, this bill gives low-income families and displaced individuals the chance to access decent housing and improve their overall well-being. We hope that this bill sparks a movement towards creating more affordable housing options for all.
