The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) of South Cotabato has confirmed its first case of mpox involving a resident from Lake Sebu, who tested positive for the milder Clade 2 variant. The patient is reportedly in stable condition and under close monitoring by local health authorities.

Second Case Confirmed in North Cotabato

The IPHO of North Cotabato earlier confirmed a case involving a 30-year-old male from Tulunan town, also positive for the Clade 2 variant. He is currently being isolated to prevent further transmission.

Urging Public Vigilance

Senator Go urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant in the face of these emerging cases. Long-term preparedness is necessary to protect Filipinos from recurring outbreaks of various diseases, he said, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent the spread of mpox.

Senate Bill Filed to Establish Philippine CDC

The Senator also highlighted the need for a robust disease control system in the Philippines. He filed Senate Bill 195 to establish the Philippine Center for Disease Control (CDC), an independent body tasked with surveillance, prevention, and rapid response to infectious diseases. If we have our own CDC, we will no longer be dependent on other countries, Senator Go said. We will be able to act fast; our response will be more organized.
