Ford recalls 1.74 million of its cars over rear view camera display issues
Ford has issued a recall for 1.74 million cars due to rearview camera display issues. The defect may cause the screen to go blank or display distorted images, potentially impairing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects certain model year 2015-2018 Ford Fusions, 2016-2019 Ford Escapes, and 2013-2016 Ford Transit vehicles equipped with rearview camera systems. Owners of these vehicles will begin receiving letters from Ford starting in early March.
If the rearview camera display fails while the vehicle is being driven, the driver may not be able to see objects to the rear of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford has received 31 reports of the defect, including two reports of minor injuries.
Affected owners are advised to contact their local Ford dealerships, who will inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the rearview camera system free of charge. The repair is expected to take about an hour.
