Title Filipino Weightlifter Ian de los Santos Shatters World Juniors Record in Norway
Forde, Norway - In a remarkable display of strength and determination, 19-year-old Filipino weightlifter Ian de los Santos has broken the World Juniors record in the 71 kg category at the International Weightlifting Federation's championships currently underway in Forde, Norway.
This impressive achievement comes just months after De los Santos claimed the gold medal at the World Junior Championship in Lima, Peru. His parents, Alvin and Diwa, a national coach, must be extremely proud of their son's remarkable achievements.
Initially, some coaching staff had doubts about De los Santos' readiness to compete against the world's best athletes. However, he has proven himself to be a formidable force, showcasing not only his impressive lifting skills but also his heart and determination.
In fact, De los Santos' journey bears some resemblance to that of Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, who took three Olympiads to win her first silver medal before finally claiming the top spot on her fourth attempt. Like Diaz, De los Santos has demonstrated a similar spirit, and it will be exciting to see what he achieves in the years to come - perhaps even at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
De los Santos is not alone in his success, as fellow Filipino athlete Elreen Ando has also won a bronze medal in her category. Together with weightlifters Rosegie Ramos, Fernando Agad, and Kristel Macrohon, they will be representing their country and vying for honors at the Los Angeles Olympics.
While there are challenges to overcome in Norway's cold climate, the team is confident that with God's guidance, they will continue to thrive and make their country proud.
