Shining a Light Citicore's P10-Billion Solar Plant in Batangas Sets New Standard for Renewable Energy
As the world transitions towards cleaner energy sources, Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. has made significant strides in this direction with the launch of its P10-billion solar power facility in Batangas. The impressive 197-megawatt (MWp) solar power plant, known as Citicore Solar Batangas 1, sets a new standard for renewable energy in the country.
A Groundbreaking Achievement
Located in Barangays Lumbangan and Luntal in Tuy, Batangas, the solar power plant features a 320 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS), allowing it to store and dispatch needed energy beyond normal hours of solar operation (10 a.m.-2 p.m.), providing baseload capacity.
According to Citicore Renewable President and CEO Oliver Tan, Our Citicore Solar Batangas 1 is the first in the Philippines to prove that solar can be true baseload power. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the country's renewable energy transition, paving the way for future projects.
A Commitment to Innovation and Expansion
Citicore Renewable has outlined an ambitious plan to replicate this breakthrough starting in Batangas. With a target of 1.5 GWh of battery energy storage systems in place, the company is poised to make a meaningful impact on the country's energy landscape.
We are committed to hitting our 1 gigawatt target by the first quarter of 2026, Tan emphasized. Our goal is to transition the country away from unclean energy and fuel importation uncertainties to homegrown, reliable, and pure renewable energy.
A Strong Partnership for Growth
The company's commitment to innovation and expansion is not limited to its projects alone. Citicore Renewable has demonstrated a strong partnership with the government, which has been instrumental in driving the growth of the renewable energy sector.
We value our collaborative approach with the government, as seen in our previous project with Megawide, said Citicore Renewable Chairman Edgar Saavedra. With our experience and expertise in engineering, construction, and innovation, we are confident in completing our projects on time, with quality, and at a lower cost.
A Bright Future Ahead
As Citicore Renewable continues to push the boundaries of renewable energy, its impact will be felt across the country. The company's plans for future projects, including 11 facilities in Pangasinan, Pampanga, Batangas, Quezon, and Negros Occidental, are expected to reduce close to 2.8 billion tons of carbon emissions while generating enough electricity to power approximately 800,000 homes yearly.
The future looks bright indeed for Citicore Renewable, as it continues to lead the charge in transforming the country's energy landscape into a more sustainable and renewable one.
