Blast at Shiite mosque kills 10, hurts dozens in Pakistan

A massive explosion ripped through a Shiite mosque on the outskirts of Pakistan's capital Friday. This act of violence left at least 10 worshippers dead and dozens injured, rescue officials and witnesses said. Police in Islamabad called it an attack and said they were investigating.
Rescuers and witnesses said at least 10 people died, and some were listed as being critical. Television footage showed residents transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.
Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, asking authorities to ensure that those wounded received medical care. No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion, but suspicion likely falls on militants like the Pakistani Taliban or Islamic State group.
Militants often target security forces and civilians across Pakistan. In November, a suicide bomber struck outside a court in Islamabad, killing 12 people.
The latest attack comes nearly a week after the Baloch Liberation Army launched multiple attacks in southwestern Balochistan province, leaving about 50 dead. The military said that more than 200 terrorists were killed by security forces responding to those attacks.
